my new favourite thing

I love the use of textiles as art. You can staple your chosen textile over stretched canvas or display it in a pretty frame with or without a mat. I am in the process of creating two of my own pieces using a pale blue and white Chippendale fretwork pattern for one and a bold indigo damask for the other. I'm very excited to see how they turn out!

l'aviva pillows

YES...100% organic hemp linen, clean lines, and filled with plush down. These pillows are what my dreams are made of! Well, perhaps not to that degree, but they would fit so nicely in a sunny kitchen nook.

The Beauty of Wedgwood: Part III

A couple last Wedgwood favourites of mine...

Wedgwood's Petal is romantic and exquisitely English garden. Perfectly paired with small silver spoons and generous cotton tea linens, it lends charm and a sweet delicateness to any table.

Flourish by Martha Stewart for Wedgwood is both whimsical and modern. The perfect robin's egg blue and delightful assymetrical pattern is pleasing to the eye. It would look lovely paired with full vases of pale ranunculus and a simple hanging crystal chandelier to cast a warm glow.

The Beauty of Wedgwood: Part II

I went through Wedgwood's website today and picked out my favourites from what they currently have listed. The Queen's Plain is a lovely classic and I love how much history is behind the design. It is called Queen's Ware because Queen Charlotte of England admired it so much that she had a set made for herself and allowed it to be called "Queen's Ware".

The Beauty of Wedgwood: Part I

This flatware design is sooooo pretty. I first saw it in At Home With Wedgwood: The Art of the Table and immediately fell in love. It's Trellis by Vera Wang for Wedgwood and I adore it. It's old world, detailed...each piece is art in it's own right.

bold and blue

The bold print on this bedspread is to die for, I would actually love to see it used as a tablecloth. Pair it with yellow, orange, or even red accents and you've got a tablescape no one will forget!

it's a lovely day for walk, m'dear.

I love that coat! Deliciously fun coats like these are part of what fall is made of. Today as I was driving I admired all the beautiful fall leaves and thought about the many lovely things that come with fall like hot apple cider and scarves and football games. I came home with a big bag of books including The Sartorialist and Inspirations from France and Italy. I'm super excited to delve into these over the weekend!

odds and ends

Who would have known that your collection of odds and ends could be so artistic? My favourite is the top one. I could not explain to you why, but I like things like chunky yarn and baker's twine. Maybe because they are so perfect for tying off a present, attaching a tag, or wrapping around a bouquet of wildflowers? This week in particular I am quite design-minded, I began reading a book on interior design and am simply devouring it. After I get through it once I'm going to go through it again and take notes on all the lovely tips and tricks, and of course, my favourite ideas.

I'll eat you up I love you so.

Let the wild rumpus start!

Today is a rainy, terribly cold day and I will spend most of it reading and writing (the required kind, not the fun kind). At least I have the comfort of my electric blanket and a giant-like cup of hot chocolate. I have tonight to look forward to because I will visit the home of a dear friend and we will celebrate the weekend and all sorts of good things.

the fair

I haven't been to the fair in a very, very long time, but if I did, I would want to ride the ferris wheel, have a pink cotton candy, and ride on a horse. Do they have horse rides at the fair? I'm not sure, but it would be marvelous if they did.

A Lovely Tea Party

A couple weekends ago I had some lovely ladies over for tea. We had some delightful biscuits, tea sandwiches, and a French dessert that I cannot recall the name of. It was oh-so-lovely. Below are photos of the tablescape that I designed for this particular event. I used brightly coloured cups and saucers and white luncheon dishes set upon a soft blue linen with striped cloth napkins. One of my favourite elements is the ruffly pink platter in the centre. Platters are so versatile because they can be used to display small vases of flowers, cakes, fruit, or tea sandwiches, as I chose to do. Lastly, I designed and printed placecards and invitations for the event!

baking day

On days like these I crave a glass of creamy milk and raw, broken chocolate. Preferably dark chocolate that is velvety and utterly exquisite. Soon, I plan on having a baking day and I will make one of my many bookmarked recipes! Ah, I do have so many plans, if you only knew.

orange poppies

Poppies are one of my favourite types of flowers, they are simple and strong. They can make a statement. When I see these photos I picture a modern white lounge space with a bold aqua loveseat, big-patterned curtains and orange accents integrated throughout the room.

as the clouds do.

This reminds me of the hot air balloons I used to see floating overhead at my childhood home, the field where they launched was only a couple miles away and I always wished that I could be up there and see the world as the clouds do.

(Mini powder sugar doughnuts are one of my favourites.)

Christmas on the mind

Stores are taking out their Christmas decor and now I can't help but get excited for the season, early as it may be! Lately I've been dreaming of a taffeta party dress in a spirited, luminous red. It would be perfect for Christmas parties wouldn't it?
